Large and powerful, beautiful and intelligent... boa constrictors are a truly majestic species. Native to South America, Central America and parts of Mexico, these constrictors require a warm and humid environment. Adults average 5-8' in length, though large females fed a heavy diet can grow to 10' in length and easily weigh up to 35+lbs. Because of their size, we do not recommend boa constrictors as pets for first time snake keepers, hobbyists who have no experience with large snakes, or young children.
We primarily work with the Boa c. imperator and Boa c. constrictor subspecies. Most common boas in the pet trade and most color and pattern morph boas are from the Boa c. imperator subspecies. These boas are fairly common, generally docile and easy to care for. Boa c. constrictor, or "true redtails" include locale type boas from Suriname, Guyana, Peru, Brazil, etc. More rare and easy to spot with their "bat winged" saddle markings and bright, blood red tails.. true redtails are a little less "laid back" and can be more sensitive to their keeper's errors. We keep and breed Suriname and Guyana Boa c. constrictor.
